Slow Summer: A Seasonal Mudgee Itinerary
While so many flock to the craziness of the coast in the summertime, our team invite you to slow down, take the winding roads to the mid-west and join us on country time instead.
And, to really help you get into relaxation mode, we’ve done the hard work of planning a 3 night itinerary, just for you. All you have to do is book.
Day One: It’s time to relax and unwind
FRIDAY AFTERNOON
In the interest of keeping things easy and on theme for a ‘Slow Summer’ we suggest an afternoon of settling in, followed by a quick dip in the pool to wash off your drive. Freshen up and finish your day with a relaxed but wholly delightful dinner at our stunning on-site restaurant, Gigi’s.
Beloved by locals and guests alike, Chef Sam and his team have curated a menu centred around the best seasonal produce Mudgee has to offer, complimented by a lovingly crafted wine list showcasing a fantastic blend of local, national and international winemakers.
Just make sure to book a table as we’d hate for you to miss out!

Day Two: Wake to the aroma of country
SATURDAY MORNING
It’s our opinion that alarms on holiday should be illegal, but please… do as you wish. When the time comes to start your day, we have options aplenty.
To start your day in a suitably relaxing manner, breakfast and coffee at Gigi’s is the obvious first choice, but our gym and steam room is also ready and waiting. Whether you’re after a minimally complicated day relaxing by the pool, or feel the pull to sample your way through wine country, make sure you’ve scheduled some time to relax in our wellness rooms at Jila. With stunningly designed Infrared sauna and float therapy rooms, you’re long weekend will be off to the most wonderful and wholesome of starts.
SATURDAY AFTERNOON + EVENING
For a memorable and suitably easy afternoon of wining amongst the vines, head out to The Cellar by Gilbert to taste your way through some beautiful local wines and then venture just a little further down the road for a delicious and locally adored evening meal at The Barn.

Day Three: A slow day at Lowe
SUNDAY MORNING
This is a very Sunday itinerary, and begins with a light breakfast of pastries and coffee at local fave, Althea By Zin. We’d recommend grabbing your coffee to go and finding yourself a spot down by the river to enjoy the early part of your day.
From here—keeping right on theme—head out to your (pre-booked) cooking class at the Zin Summer Cooking School at Lowe Family Wine Co. Gather around an open kitchen bench at the Zin House and learn a variety of skills from some of the region’s very best.
SUNDAY AFTERNOON
Now that you’ve officially achieved something with your Sunday, our suggestion is to stroll down the hill to the Lowe cellar door for a charcuterie board and wine tasting. Relax in shaded seating overlooking the vineyard. From the wisteria laden cellar door to the sweeping rolling hills, it really is a must-do.
SUNDAY NIGHT
After a long and lovely day out, return back to the hotel for a cocktail by the pool and an easy dinner at The Flour Bin.

Day Four: Take the winding road home
MONDAY MORNING
After arising from a peaceful slumber, feeling blissfully rested and restored, pop back down to Gigi’s for a delicious breakfast and perhaps a little swim before beginning a meandering journey home.
HEADING NORTH TO NEWCASTLE OR THE NORTH COAST?
Visit The Drip Gorge early to beat the heat. This short, shaded and stunning walk along the river offers cool sandstone cliffs and lush greenery.
HEADING SOUTH TO SYDNEY?
Head to Ganguddy-Dunns Swamp for a guided kayaking experience with Southern Cross Kayaking. Explore the serene waterways of Wollemi National Park, surrounded by sandstone cliffs and abundant wildlife. Morning sessions are best for cooler temperatures and calm conditions.
